The Paris 2024 Olympic Games kicked off with an unforgettable opening ceremony, where the lighting of the cauldron marked a milestone. The event, described as one of the best in history, filled the streets of Paris with lights, music and choreography, celebrating the rich French culture.
The Olympic torch relay offered spectators a breathtaking view of the city. The Seine River was a prominent protagonist, serving as a route for the delegations and athletes carrying the symbolic fire. According to the official website of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, 18 Olympians and Paralympians were the honorable torchbearers.
On the last leg of the journey, the torch was handed over by Zinedine Zidane to Rafael Nadal, who along with Serena Williams, Carl Lewis and Nadia ComÄneci, carried the fire to the end of the course. On the river bank, former tennis player and Roland Garros director AmĆ©lie Mauresmo took over, leading the flame in honor of the Paralympic athletes.
Finally, the torch was placed in the hands of Olympic champions Marie-JosĆØ Perec and Teddy Riner, who lit the cauldron in the Tuileries Garden, near the Louvre Museum and Place de la Concorde. The cauldron, a flaming ring seven meters in diameter, rose like a hot air balloon to a height of 30 meters, offering a spectacle never seen before.
